1.Breathing In A New Mentality
This song starts off the album w/ a weird, slightly off-beat, & terribly produced drum intro. Then goes into some odd-sounding screaming by Spencer of "I'm the desperate, & You're the Saviour". Then it's stops & there's a slight reverb & you're asking yourself "wtf!?" then it explodes & the rest of the song is probably one Underoath's hardest songs, if it's not the hardest. It's pure brutal: no melody whatsoever.
2.Anyone Can Dig A Hole But It Takes A Real Man To Call It Home
This track starts where "Breathing In..." left w/ brutal-ness, but unlike the first track, this song has some nice melodic singing by Aaron. This song is amazing by itself.
3.A Fault Line, A Fault Of Mine
Starts w/ some singing by Aaron & is probably one of the more melodic songs on this album. That's not bad though, Aaron & Spencer's mixed vocals are almost flawless. I do think the guys got a little lazy at 2:40-2:50 though.
4.Emergency Broadcast :: The End Is Near
This song starts off w/ a sound effect going into Spencer w/ some some static-sounding singing by Aaron in the background. I do think the background singing Aaron does in the beginning was a little unnecessary, but the rest of the song goes on great. The rest of the song goes on w/ the same feel, but it really starts at about 2:10.
5.The Only Survivor Was Miraculously Unharmed
Is another song that starts off surprisingly brutal. This song is really one of the better ones on the album. It includes alot of memorable lyrics like "Repeat,Repeat,Repent, & Repeat!".
6.We Are the Involuntary
It gets old a bit too quick, but still a good track. Also, Spencer screams "We're all lost in the sound of separation" a pretty good bit.
7.The Created Void
This another track that starts off w/ Aaron singing, but then Spencer has some amazing vocal solos (singing not screaming). This another great more melodic track.
8.Coming Down Is Calming Down
Starts out w/ some interesting guitars, but goes into a classic Underoath song. Not that that's bad, it actually really good, but it's just not a stand-out song.
9.Desperate Times Desperate Measures
This was Underoath's first single from this album & it's a great song & choice for a first single. Very classic metalcore w/ some breakdowns. With an Underoath twist of course.
10.Too Bright To See Too Loud To Hear
In my opinion, this is the best song on the album. It's pretty much "Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape" from They're Only Chasing Safety made better. Only bad part is it's too much like "Some Will Seek Forgiveness...". It even builds up the same way & the lyrics are very similar: Some Will Seek Forgiveness "Jesus, I'm ready to come home" Too Bright Too See "God, can You still get us home". Both explode on "home".
11.Desolate Earth :: The End Is Here
Not brutal as the title might suggest, but a calm masterpiece that fits the title more than brutality ever could. It's mostly an instrumental except for the end which has a speech by Spencer. A perfect ending.
